CU (Mexico City, August 2006), 2007
slide installation with 120 slides, two synchronized projectors

The series is a personal portrait of “Ciudad Universitaria” (CU), the National University’s Mexico City campus. The carefully composed shots of exterior and interior views, architectural details, and eerily unpopulated hallways, class rooms and walkways highlight Holzfeind’s interest in aging modernist structures, the conceptualization of the campus as a modern “city“ and the use of functionality in the Mexican modernization project.

The concept and composition of CU was designed by Mario Pani and Enrique del Moral (under the direction of Carlos Lazo) as a modern "city": It combines modernistic principles with historic references, rational architecture in the international style with mystic concepts, and understands the campus as a "Gesamt-kunstwerk" according to Bauhaus ideals in which more than 60 architects, engineers and artists worked closely together. In 2007 the campus was declared world heritage.

53 photographs of the series are published in the two volume book "Mexcio 68 / CU" by Kodoji Press, Switzerland (2009).
